  Gianni Versace
Versace is a brand well-known in the fashion industry. It was founded by Gianni Versace in 1978 with its first boutique in Milan's Via della Spiga. It immediately became on of the world's top international fashion houses. Gianni Versace was born in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, growing up with his older brother, Santo and younger sister, Donatella. Their mother was a dressmaker, Francesca. At a young age, Gianni helped his mother find embellishments for dresses. Before working in fashion design at the age of 25, he studied architecture. He soon designed leather and suede collections for head-hunters Genny and Callaghan. Shortly thereafter, he launched his new collection for women at the Palazzo della Permanente Art Museum of Milan. He quickly became popular as people were drawn to his colorful clothing and theater costumes. In 1997, his brother Santo along with Jorge Saud (later a partner with Giorgio Armani) became CEO after Versace's untimely death. His sister Donatella is the new head of design.
