  Gloria Vanderbilt
Gloria Vanderbilt, an American artist, actress, and developer of designer blue jeans, was born in 1924 in New York. She was an heiress to a $4 million trust fund after her father's death when she was only 14 months old. Vanderbilt lived with her aunt Gertrude in a luxury environment after her Aunt won a court battle against her mother. Vanderbilt studied art and became known for her work. She also licensed the use of her name on a line of fashion eyeglasses, perfume and clothing in the 1970s. In 1979, the Murjani Corporation launched a line of designer jeans with Vanderbilt's name embossed on the back pocket, jeans that were more tight-fitting than other jeans during the time.
